Christmas Portraits

With Christmas just around the corner now is the time to be thinking about booking your family portrait. Weekends are the most popular time for family portraits so you will need to secure your date in our diary as soon as possible to ensure that your photohgraphs are ready in time for Christmas.

West Buckland School Prom 2009

West Buckland's Year 11 pupils held their annual Prom at the High Bullen Hotel, Chittlehamholt on Tuesday evening. Guests arrived in style in various cars ranging from vintage soft tops to modern day sports cars. Due to the very warm weather conditions much of the time was spent outside before the evening got into full swing. After photographing couples arriving and groups of friends I took everyone up to the first tee for a large group photo. Once the meal was over everyone took to the floor and danced the night away.

Family Portrait Club

Due to the succes of Emma's Diary we have just introduced a new scheme called the Family Portrait Club. This offer consists of a portrait sitting at our studio and a complimentary 10x8 print (normal cost £55). Photographs of the family all together and individually can be taken at the session and the images viewed and selected on our large screen a few days later. Easter Portrait Update

With Easter just around the corner, baby portraits seem to be as popular as ever with around twenty sittings a week booking into our studio in Bear Street, Barnstaple. We have been as busy during the first three months of this year as we were in the lead up to Christmas!

We have photographed three sets of twins up to now which does prove to be quite demanding at times but also a lot of fun too! Our diary is currently booked for three weeks in advance, so ring now to book your Easter portrait sitting 01271 344480.

Nikki & Justyn's wedding celebration at the Cedars Hotel

Newly weds Nikki & Justyn were joined by family and friends on Saturday evening as they celebrated their wedding which took place in Cuba on November 8th.
Eighteen close family and friends spent two weeks in Cuba but unfortunately caught the tail end of a hurricane on the evening of the wedding! Everyone got dressed up again this weekend and celebrated with more family and friends but this time they had the snow to contend with!

Emma's Diary update

We have been running the Emma's Diary scheme for about six months now and thought it might be a good idea to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about how it all works.

It can't really be free surely it must be a con?
If you return the reply card within the stated time (normally two weeks from receipt of the information) registration is free, if you join after that date the cost is £25. You are invited to the studio for a sitting at four to six monthly intervals over the course of the year. You will be able to choose one image from each sitting to be presented in a framed triple folio at the end of the year, free of charge. Additional prints may be purchased at any time but you are under no obligation to do so. Reprint prices start from £10.

How long does each sitting take?
We allow approximately 45 minutes for the first sitting and a little less for the second and third. The photography takes between 10 and 20 minutes, the rest of the time can often be spent getting your baby changed, fed, settled etc.

Can I also bring my other children along to be photographed?
Yes, that's absolutely fine as long as you realise that the free framed folio only applies to the new baby. Photographs of older brothers and sisters or other family members can be taken at the same time but prints have to be purchased separately.

I have just received my Emma's Diary information but my baby is already over six months old, is it still worth me registering?
We receive details regarding new babies from the Lloyds Pharmacy group but sometimes the information can be up to nine months old. If your baby is already past the newborn stage we can still cover a year's development but it just means that it will have started a little later than usual.

Family members gather to celebrate a very special Birthday

Three generations of Mrs Lilian Coates' family came together at the weekend to celebrate her 90th birthday and some travelled from as far away as Canada to join in the celebrations. The whole family came to the studio for on Monday morning for a large photo shoot to remember the special occasion. After the formal shots everyone changed into something a little more casual as their hobby/pastime clothes which ranged from hockey and football strip to golf and cycling outfits!

Vi's 100th Birthday

I was delighted to be asked to photograph a very special birthday party last Saturday. It was Mrs. Violet Pye's 100th birthday and what a party it turned out to be! Vi who is a resident at Norah Bellot Court was joined by her family and fellow residents and their families for celebration which went on nearly all day. After an extra special lunch everyone joined in with a sing song before Vi cut her 100th birthday cake and showed off her telegram from the Queen.

Here are some shots from just a few portraits taken in the run up to Christmas. Despite the current economic climate we have been busier than ever this year photographing approximately ten portraits a week. January has got off to a good start with the same amount of bookings each week including Saturdays and Sundays which are fully booked now until the beginning of February.

Adrain's 50th Birthday Party

I attended the 50th birthday party of Adrian Black this weekend which was held at the family home near Barnstaple. Friends and relations from all over the country joined in the celebrations on a beautiful autumn evening in a marquee decorated especially for the occasion, complete with a hog roast, music, 50th birthday cake and plenty of champagne!

Portrait ideas for Christmas

Well, with Emma's Diary starting off so well we have been taking over fifteen portraits per week during August and September. Together with this we have been photographing the normal number of baby and family portraits and with nine weddings in August alone it has been a very busy time. And if that was not stressful enough the studio was broken into over at the end of the month and valuable equipment was stolen. New security measures have now been put into place so at least we can sleep at night now!

Below are a few images from various different portraits taken over the past four weeks. With the diary very busy for the rest of September, Christmas portraits already being booked so it looks as if the end of this year will continue to be very busy. To cope with the number of portraits in the run up to Christmas, we will be taking bookings for Sundays until December and also some Saturday when the weddings drop off a little in November.

First month for Emma's Diary

We have started our Emma's Diary portraits this week and things have got off to a flying start with some very cute babies and toddlers coming into the studio. The take up has been much higher than expected with over thirty sittings booked in for the next three weeks!

The three Tweedie children came into the studio this week for their first portrait all together. Despite the fact the all three are all under five, I did manage to capture them all smiling at the same time for a couple of shots!

Baby Freya Woodhead's first portrait

Freya Woodhead came to the studio with her Mummy and Daddy last week for her very first portrait. She had a combination of dressed and nude shots taken with and without her parents. She seemed to enjoy her time in the studio and we look forward to seeing her again in a few months time when she is sitting up and no doubt a little more mobile!

Sunday 3rd August

Today I photographed the Gillespie's together with their son and daughter's partners to record the family before Mr & Mrs Gillespie move Singapore for a couple of years next week. The portrait was a surprise gift for mum the rest of the family as a lasting memory of everybody before they go their separate ways for a while. Proofing took place two days later and all the enlargements are now printed and ready for transporting across the seas!

Last Weekend was a very busy one with weddings, portraits and the West Buckland Ball. I photographed two baby portraits and one family group in the studio, here are just a couple images shown here from the sittings. The Arend family had a get together at their home with some of the family over from South Africa, images also shown below.

I was asked to attend RMB Chivenor on two occasions this week to photograph the official picture of the formation of the 24 Commando Engineering Regiment. It was a fairly stressful affair as I had only a two minute slot to photgraph the heads of the Army and Navy in the country and four hundred soldiers!

West Buckland 150th Ball

It has been a very busy weekend with several social functions as well as the usual run of portraits.

On Saturday evening West Buckland School celebrated 150 years since it's foundation in 1858 with a Grand Ball which was held in the newly built Jonathan Edwards sports hall. After a champagne reception guests enjoyed a lavish meal followed by entertainment dancing until 3.30am on Sunday morning!

With the wedding season just about to start, I am still very busy covering portraits. Most of my customers are small babies but I am still enjoying the rough and tumble of fun family portraits as much as ever.

Again just a couple of shots taken from different portraits over the past couple of weeks .

Next week I am undertaking more work at the local army base and also starting a long term project for a large local hotel.

I had a very busy Easter covering many different types of

portraits such as small babies, a large family gathering and a group photograph of the new officers at the local camp.

With lots of portraits booked in the next coming couple of weeks, and most of them being babies under the age of four weeks, it looks as if the towels are going to be used a quite a lot!

I just had to share this image with you all. Today little George came back with his Mum & Dad to view the proofs that I took of him and his family last weekend. At that sitting I described a shot that I would like to take of a month old baby and asked if I could try out the idea with George.

It has been very busy for portrait sittings with a total of seven this week. I have also been learning how to use a new viewing/proofing programme so it has been all go. Soon, portrait proofing will be carried out by means of projection onto a large screen, make the viewing of the proofs a great deal easier and lots more fun too!

Here are just a couple of images. First is little Flo, who came in with her Mummy and Daddy. Secondly the Chapple family who came in for the Mothers Day offer.

This is where I will be linking all my photography taken in the portrait studio at Bear Street Barnstaple. Family functions, birthdays, christenings and other social events will be shown, as well as special offers.

I thought it might be a good idea to show you some ideas for presents from a couple of my portraits taken earlier this year. The black and white design is from the 'Amelie' sitting taken in August and the pink one is from 'Grace's first portrait' which was shot in June.
